ELAMATHI DEVI G

Abstract

Uterine Leiomyoma is the most common gynaecological tumor in the reproductive age group. However it is extremely rare in adolescence less than one percent with approximately only nineteen cases to date. More-over its presence in adolescent population has not been well  documented. With the advent of high frequency  ultrasonography and Magnetic resonance imaging, it is now possible to diagnose such cases at an early state.                Asymptomatic uterine fibroids can be left untreated as long as they are monitored closely. However larger tumors usually require surgical treatment. This article focus on a case of large uterine leiomyoma in an adolescent sexually inactive girl who presented with a lump in the abdomen and heavy menstrual bleeding without history of oral contraceptive pills intake
