TRAUMATIC PPH WITH PUBIC DIASTASIS A CASE PRESENTATION

BANUPRIYA M

Abstract

Parturition induced severe pelvic instability is rare. Incidence rate of symphysial rupture after vaginal delivery ranges from one in 600 to one in 30,000 deliveries. Peripartum ligamentous relaxation with moderate widening of symphysis pubis and sacroiliac joints is physiologic and  occurs regularly resulting in widening of the birth canal, facilitating delivery. This occurs secondary to increased             elasticity of the pelvic joints induced by an elevation in  circulating progesterone and relaxin. We hereby report a case of severe pubic diastasis with resulting urethral injury   following vaginal delivery of an average sized baby which is a rare cause of traumatic PPH .
