NABISHA BEGAM A

Abstract

Placenta percreta causing spontaneous uterine rupture is a very rare but serious complication of a pregnancy and is rarely diagnosed following an abortion , for which very few cases have been reported in the literature worldwide. Abnormal placentation in early pregnancy has increased in prevalence due to marked rise in cesarean deliveries and curettages in recent decades. This case report describes a case of 32 year old pregnant woman who is G2A1 at 28 weeks gestation was admitted to the casualty because of lower abdominal pain. On examination she was found to be anemic. Tachycardia and hypotension was there, uterus was acting mildly with tense and tenderness. USG showed   placenta located at the fundus and right lateral wall.    Emergency laparotomy was done for suspected Abruptio placentae. Intra operatively diagnosis of placenta percreta was made and the patient had emergency total cesarean hysterectomy with placenta in situ. This case highlights that placenta percreta may present in second trimester without any associated high risk factors.
