Primary adenosquamous carcinoma of Gall bladder - A rare case

FRANCIS ASIR JOSEPH

Abstract

Abstract : Primary adenosquamous cell carcinoma of                 gallbladder is a rare and an aggressive tumor with a poorer prognosis than adenocarcinoma. A 50 yr old female patient presented with features of acute cholecystitis and obstructive jaundice. Computer tomography (CT) scan of abdomen        revealed an enlarged gallbladder with thickened wall and a large mass along with multiple calculi occluding the lumen of          gallbladder. Histopathologically, an adenosquamous subtype of gallbladder carcinoma with areas of well differentiated squamous cells showing prominent keratin pearl formation was observed. The literature on this histologic subtype has been limited, mostly represented as individual case reports. Here, we report a rare case of primary adenosquamous cell carcinoma of gallbladder with areas of keratinisation.
