Recurrent multiple pouch calculi - A Case Report

Abstract


58 year old gentleman, a known case of
carcinoma bladder, presented with complaints
ofright side abdominal pain since
1 month. Pain was dull aching type and
non radiating. No otherspecific urological
complaints. Patient had undergone
TURBT. 21 years back which revealed-
Transitional Cell Carcinoma grade 2,
muscle invasive. Patient then underwent
radical cystectomy ,with continent colonic
pouch with appendiceal stoma. Patient
developed a pouch calculus of 3X2
cmsfor which pouch scopy and lithotripsy
done in 1998. Patient had recurrence of
pouch calculi in 2002for which pouch exploration
and extraction of multiple calculi
(5 in number, largest measuring
5X5cms) was done. In this admission patient
was found to have recurrence of
pouch calculi for which heunderwent
open poucholithotomy. The case is being
presented to highlight a common recurrentcomplication
of continent colonic diversion.
