OCULAR CYSTICERCOSIS - A RARE CASE REPORT

DHARINI R RAMASAMY

Abstract

Cysticercosis is caused by the metacestode or larval stage of Taenia solium, the pork tapeworm. Humans develop cysticercosis by ingestion of eggs of T. solium.           Patients with ocular cysticercosis may have parasites located in the subretinal space ,vitreous humor ,anterior chamber, the conjunctiva and extraocular muscles.Ocular cysticercosis should be excluded by a proper ophthalmologic examination in all patients with Neurocysticercosis prior to initiating              therapy. This case was presented to emphasise the role of ophthalmic examination to reveal the underlying systemic condition.
