A RARE CASE OF CARCINOID TUMOR - DUODENUM

PUVIARASAN G GOPAL

Abstract

Carcinoid tumors are a histological subtype of well differentiated, low to intermediate grade, slow-growing           neuroendocrine malignancies capable of secreting bioactive peptides. Primary duodenal carcinoids account for only 2.6 of carcinoid tumors of gastro intestinal tumors. Here we present a case of a duodenal carcinoid picked up early through          appropriate investigations and its management in our               institution. A 44 yr old male presented with Abdominal pain for 6 months and Loose stools for 2 months along with giddiness and flushing. Patient had stable general condition and         abdominal examination revealed epigastric tenderness alone. Diagnostic work up revealed it as carcinoid tumor of              duodenum with out metastasis. Duodenotomy and excision of lesion was done .Post-operatively patient relieved of his symptoms and on regular follow up. This case is presented for its rarity and the highlight the various investigation and treatment modalities for duodenal carcinoids.
