MANAGEMENT OF ISCHEMIC STEAL IN AV ACCESS - A CASE REPORT REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Abstract
Ischemic steal syndrome (ISS) associated
with arteriovenous (AV) access is
rare but has the potential to result in severe
complications. Distal revascularization
and interval ligation (DRIL) is a surgical
procedure, which has been used to
treat such patients with ischemia secondary
to arterial steal from dialysis accesses.
Here we present the case details
of a young girl who developed steal
symptoms in the left upper limb after left
brachiocephalic fistula creation and was
successfully managed with DRIL procedure.
We also review the literature regarding
the incidence of ISS after AV access
and outcomes of DRIL for its management.
