Variations in the Vascular Anatomy of Free Anterolateral thigh Flap and Strategy for Harvest

ROMUL DHAYAN RAJA JOACHIM

Abstract

The anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap is a
versatile soft tissue flap. It can be harvested
as a pedicled, free fasciocutaneous
or myocutaneous flap. Vascularized
fascia can be included or the pedicle
may be harvested as a flow-through flap.
The anterolateral thigh flap is harvested
based on the lateral descending branch
of the lateral circumflex femoral artery
(LCFA). Anatomical variations of descending
branch (quadriceps artery) of
lateral circumflex femoral artery and
strategy that is followed in these variation
in harvesting anterolateral thigh flap are
described
