RETINAL DEGENERATION FOLLOWING ORGANOPHOSPHORUS POISONING A CASE REPORT
Abstract
22 year old female ,who was apparently normal previously ,was admitted in an unconscious state following consumption of organophosphorous compound in a bid to commit suicide. She regained consciousness 6 days following intensive therapy. Patient complained of defective vision in both eyes. She had only perception of light both eyes. There was restriction of all extraocular movements. Fundus picture showed a diffuse pigment mottling of entire retina with normal disc and vessels. Electroretinogram showed nonrecordable photopic and scotopic responses. There are a variety of ocular manifestations following organophosphorous ingestion . This is a rare case which showed retinal degeneration following organophosphorous intake.
