Short Term Follow Up On Management Of Old Unreduced Posterior Dislocations Of Elbow.

PARTHASARATHY .

Abstract

Old Unreduced dislocation of the elbow is an  exceedingly disabling condition associated with severe           instability, limitation of elbow function and significant pain. Due to the potentially conflicting goals of restoring elbow stability and regaining a satisfactory arc of motion, successful late treatment of unreduced posterior dislocation of the elbow is a challenging problem for orthopaedic surgeons in the              developing countries. Treatment protocol consists of in situ neurolysis of the ulnar nerve, distraction and reduction of the joint and stabilization with K wire. A stable elbow was achieved in all patients, at three month follow-up the average extensionflexion arc of motion was 95 degrees. The average MEPI score at follow-up was 81.25.we present our case        series for the rarity of problem when operated early achieves good functional outcome. The aim of the study was to            evaluate the outcome of open reduction of old unreduced elbow dislocations. We report our short term follow up in  management of old unreduced dislocations of the elbow in five Patients.
