Renal angiomyolipomas its spectrum of presentation and management
Abstract
Abstract : Renal angiomyolipoma once considered a rare
benign renal tumour are relatively common these days
accounting for 0.3 - 3 percent of all renal masses. Renal
angiomyolipomas are recognized as clonal neoplasms with
clonal chromosomal aberrations and a common progenitor
cell, the perivascular epithelial cells (PEC ). The epitheloid
variant is a recently identfied entity, characterized by
predominance of PEC and a unique morphologic and
immunohistochemical profile. There is accumulating evidence
suggesting that renal epitheloidangiomyolipoma is a
malignant disease. They can present in the form of
spontanious perirenal haemorrhage, small or large
asymptomatic renal mass, or symptomatic renal mass
mimiking a renal tumor.
