A RARE CASE OF EXTRALUMINAL FOREIGN BODY CAUSING INTESTINAL OBSTRUCTION IN SCHIZHOPHRENIA

Abstract


Abstract : A 44 year male , a known case of schizophrenia ,
presented with complaints of vomiting and constipation since
3 days. Patient with signs of peritonitis was taken up for
emergency laparotomy with a preoperative diagnosis of small
bowel obstruction. Per operatively it was found that a broom
stick about 15 cm was lodged extra luminally in the mesentery
and a loop of small bowel was encircling it and got obstructed
without any intraluminal pathology, The foreign body was
extracted and intestinal obstructon was relieved. Post op
period was uneventful. Habitual per rectal insertion of broom
sticks to relive constipation was the cause .
