Corrosive Stricture esophagus stomach-our experience.
Abstract
AIMSOBJECTIVES- To study about the
corrosive strictures of oesophagus, stomach
or both and the surgical procedures
followed in management of corrosive
strictures.METHODSMATERIALS -
Retrospective study of 5 years from 2005
to 2010.All patients with the diagnosis of
corrosive strictures of Esophagus, stomach,
or both, who underwent surgical interventions
were included in the
study.RESULTS- Total of 40 cases were
included in the study and distribution of
cases was slightly in favour of females,
majority of strictures were due to acid
poisoning(approx.75), oesophagus was
most common site of stricture, most common
complication was aspiration , finally
most common procedures performed for
these patients were either a gastric pullup
or coloplasty.CONCLUSION-Critical
assessment of extent, severity of stricture,
type of acute phase intervention nutritional
status determines the surgical
management and its outcome-Surgical
intervention should be
done at the right time on the selected patients,
procedures being tailored individually
