Amniotic Band Syndrome

GOKULA PRIYA

Abstract

Amniotic band syndrome is a rare condition
caused by strands of amniotic sac
that separate and entangle digits, limbs
or other parts of fetus. It occurs when the
amnion ruptures without injury to the
chorion. The incidence is 1 in 15000.
Here we report 2 cases of amniotic band
syndrome. First ,a case of G2P1L0, previous
LSCS,24 weeks gestational age,
presented with antenatal USG finding of
nil liquor. She did not respond to any
mode of induction and ended up in hysterotomy.
A 400 gram still born baby delivered
with evidence of amniotic band at
the level of pelvis with absent both lowerlimbs.
This amniotic band was a hindrance
in vaginal delivery. Second, a
case of G2P1L1 , previous LSCS, 39
weeks gestational age, diagnosed antenatally
in 3rd trimester scan as amniotic
band syndrome with amputated toes.
Elective repeat LSCS done to deliver an
alive baby with evidence of amniotic
band syndrome.
