Primary Leiomyosarcoma Of Inferior Vena Cava - A Case Report

Saraswathy M .

Abstract

Vascular leiomyosarcomas are very rare tumors, arising commonly from the Inferior Vena Cava (IVC). Only few hundred cases have been reported worldwide. It develops from middle layer smooth muscle cells. It is mostly seen in sixth decade, with a female predominance. Usually presents as a retroperitoneal mass. Complete surgical resection with negative margins remains the only chance for long term survival of the patient. This is a case of primary leiomyosarcoma of Inferior Vena Cava involving the infra renal segment which was treated with complete resection of tumour along with involved lateral wall of inferior vena cava and reconstructed with a PTFE graft.

Leiomyosarcoma , Inferior Vena Cava, Resection, PTFE graft, Chemotherapy, Radiotherary.
