In Sequale of Chronic Mesenteric Ischaemia- is Diagnostic Laparoscopy Useful?

Villalan R, Prabhakaran Raju, Rajendran .

Abstract

Chronic mesenteric ischaemia (CMI) is less common than acute mesenteric ischaemia . In most patients,         atleast  two of three vessel should get involved either by obstruction or severly narrowed before developing  CMI. Initially most patients of mesenteric venous thrombosis (MVT) can be managed conservatively rather than surgical modality of treatment. These patients later on can develop intestinal stricture due to mild and moderate effect of          thrombosis on the bowel .  Ischaemic  small bowel strictures represent a difficult diagnosis and the potential resulting    delay may be partially responsible for increased morbidity. With the development of laparoscopic surgical procedures, laparoscopy has become increasingly popular as a diagnostic tool. Hence , we present this case series describe the role of laparoscopy as an adjunct to other investigations to achieve the diagnosis and management of Sequale of CMI
