A study of case series of the Adrenal diseases in the Department of Endocrine Surgery in Madras Medical College

Abstract


A study of case series of the Adrenal diseases in the Department of Endocrine Surgery in Madras               Medical College. This study is a retrospective study of               30 patients (19 females and 11 males) who were in our department with adrenal diseases. 24 patients were        diagnosed as benign adrenal disease and 6 patients had malignant adrenal disease. 10 patients were diagnosed as pheochromocytoma, 6 patients as adrenal cortical carcinoma, 4 patients with primary   hyperaldosteronism, 3 patients with adrenal adenoma, 2 patients with bilateral adrenal hyperplasia, 2 patients with extra adrenal               pheochromocytoma, 2 patients with adrenal incidentaloa  and 1 patient with adrenal myelolipoma. 23 patients   underwent surgery and 7 patients were managed           conservatively with medicines. 19 patients had right adrenalectomy and 4 patients had left adrenalectomy.            21 patients underwent open adrenalectomy and two          patients had laparoscopic adrenalectomy. Patients                 presenting with hypertension, headache, generalised muscle weakness, virilisation symptoms (female              patients), abdomen pain, should be examined                 completely and necessary investigations to be done. So that adrenal disease can be diagnosed earlier and              curative  treatment can be given.
