Primary Ovarian Pregnancy - in Primigravida
Abstract
Primary ovarian pregnancy is a rare entity, the diagnosis of which continues to challenge practicing clinicians.Since the first case reported by St. Maurice in 1689,many cases have been reported in literature. Heartig estimated the incidence of ovarian pregnancy to be around 1 in 25000- 40000 pregnancies. The patient is usually a fertile multipara with an in situ intra uterine device. We present a rare case wherein a young primigravida with pain abdomen and bleeding per vaginum at 3 months amenorrhoea was taken up for laparotomy in view of suspected rupture ectopic and found to have a ruptured primary ovarian pregnancy. She was successfully managed with unilateral salpingo oophorectomy and the diagnosis confirmed by histopathology
