A RARE CASE OF GIANT PILOMATRICOMA - LEFT ARM

JAYA PRAKASH D

Abstract

Pilomatricoma or Malherbe's disease is a rare benign adnexal skin tumor first reported by Malherbe and Chenantais(2). In 1961, the term Pilomatrixoma was  proposed by Forbis and Helwig which was later corrected to a more etymologically correct term pilomatricoma(1). It is  usually located on head, neck and upper extremities(3). 40 percent of pilomatricoma diagnosed in first or second decade of life. Definitive diagnosis is made on histopathlogical   examination(11) by the presence of basaloid cell, ghost cell, multinucleate giant cell, intracellular and stromal calcification. We report an 80 years old male, presenting with gradually enlarging mass on the left arm, diagnosed as pilomatricoma for which wide local excision done. Patient has  no symptoms or signs of recurrance or metastasis on 1 year of follow up.
