A RARE CASE OF EXTRASKELETAL EWINGS SARCOMA

JINREEVE SWDANIEL D

Abstract

Ewings sarcoma is a highly malignant small round cell tumour and occurs most often in children and  adolescents. In Europe and United states its annual incidence rate is 2 per million and is more rare in Asia and Africa.           Extraskeletal Ewings sarcoma is the Ewings sarcoma   occurring from non-bone tissues and is constituted by primitive small round cells. Extra skeletal Ewings sarcoma is rare and until now the largest case number reported in foreign literatures is 280. Here we present a rare case of 49 year old women who presented with complaints of swelling over the lower third of right thigh of one month duration. Trucut biopsy of the swelling revealed small blue round cells with  hyperchromatic nuclei suggesting possibilities of 1.Primitive neural ectodermal tumour 2.Extraskeletal Ewings sarcoma Patient underwent wide local excision of both swellings. HPE confirmed the diagnosis as Extraskeletal Ewings sarcoma following which the patient was subjected to chemoradiation. This case is presented because of its rarity and its rare age of presentation.
