A CASE REPORT OF DISSEMINATED INTRAVASCULAR COAGULATION (DIVC) IN A PATIENT WITH SEVERE PREECLAMPSIA
Abstract
Disseminated intravascular coagulation is a pathological state characterised by widespread activation of the clotting cascade that results in the formation of blood clots in the small blood vessels throughout the body. This leads to compromise of tissue blood flow and can lead to multiple organ damage. In addition as the clotting factors and the platelets are consumed normal clotting is disrupted and bleeding can occur from various organs. Here we present a case of DIVC in a patient with severe preeclampsia with intrauterine death. Inspite of the severity of the condition the patient was saved by timely and prompt management.
