A CASE OF SPONTANEOUS UTERINE FUNDAL RUPTURE IN MID-TRIMESTER PREGNANCY

VINOTHA M

Abstract

Uterine rupture in pregnancy, is a life threatening complication. It mainly occurs in the third trimester of   pregnancy. It is rarely seen during the early trimesters. Most of the rupture occurs at the previous cesarean scar siteuterine fundal rupture is a rare occasion. Our centre experienced one such case. It was a case of rupture uterus at 18 weeks of gestation, suspected clinically and confirmed by    ultrasound. Various risk factors ,clinical presentations, course of events and difficulties in diagnosing uterine rupture are discussed. Ultrasound findings of intrauterine pregnancy with free fluid doesnot exclude uterine rupture. Searching for  non-gynaecological causes in such conditions, might delay crucial surgical intervention, which leads to unnecessary  morbidity and mortality. Our patient had past history of two abortions followed by curettages.
