A rare case of Coarctation of Aorta diagnosed during pregnancy

VINITRA D

Abstract

Coarctation of Aorta is usually diagnosed in           infancy or early childhood in 80 percent of the cases and survival into adulthood is common (1). Females with aortic coarctation are expected to reach childbearing age often with previous history of surgical repair or less commonly                      diagnosed for first time in pregnancy during evaluation for hypertension or rarely may present with aortic dissection. Here is a case report of a 25 year old third gravida at 34 weeks of gestation with previous two live children delivered vaginally, a known case of hypertension for past 7 years  admitted for routine evaluation of high blood pressure. On evaluation she was found to have coarctation of aorta              complicated by hypertension. The patient was managed by a  multidisciplinary team, underwent elective Caesarian section along with bilateral tubal sterilzation at 38 weeks of gestation to deliver a 3.2kg alive term boy baby. Patient has been planned for balloon dilatation after delivery.
