A rare case of ligneous conjunctivitis

JEBINTH BRAYAN

Abstract

Ligneous conjunctivitis is a rare form of chronic conjunctivitis characterized by the development of fibrin rich pseudomembrane formation. We report a case of presumed ligneous conjunctivitis. A 6 month old baby presented with white discharge in the tarsal conjunctiva of both eyes. Lids appeared thick and swollen .The lesion was present for two months and had been treated with systemic and topical       antibiotics and steroids. It was suspected to be case of          ligneous conjunctivitis due to recurrent pseudomembrane formation which was woody in consistency and did not       respond to treatment. Patient was treated with surgical         removal of membrane and topical fresh frozen plasma. The membrane formation reduced considerably.
