ADMISSION TEST AND ITS CORRELATION WITH PERINATAL OUTCOME

MEENA DANDAPANI

Abstract

Aim was to evaluate the correlation of
perinatal outcome with admission test in
both high and low risk pregnancies.
200mothers, 100 from low risk and 100
from high risk group who were admitted
to labour room with true labour pains
were subjected to admission cardiotocogram
for 20 minutes. The fetal heart
tracings were classified into normal, suspicious
or omnious according to NICE
GUIDELINES IN 2007.Intrapartum monitoring
was done. The admission test was
correlated with perinatal wellbeing as evidenced
by Apgar scores at 5minutes of 7
and above. The test had high specificity
and high negative predictive value(87
and 96.8 respectively)Only 3.2 of them
with normal admission test had poor perinatal
outcomes. Positive predictive value
was higher in high risk pregnancies than
low risk pregnancies(50 vs 37.5),hence
the need for intensive intrapartum monitoring
for those with abnormal tracings in
admission test.
