HYDROCELE OF THE CANAL OF NUCK

JAYA LAKSHMI B BALASUBRAMANIAN

Abstract

The Hydrocele of canal of Nuck is also known as the female hydrocele or cyst of canal of Nuck. It is a very rare presentation. Only 400 cases have been reported so far. The canal of nuck was first described by Dr. Anton Nuck(1), who was a Dutch anatomist in the 17th century. The canal of nuck is analogous to processus vaginalis in males. In about 13rd of cases concomitant inguinal hernia was also found. The diagnosis is difficult on the basis of clinical findings alone. In most cases reported in the literature, the diagnosis was made during surgery performed for suspected inguinal hernias.
