Amniotic Band Syndrome

GAYATHRIEDEVI S SELLATHAMBY

Abstract

Amniotic Band Syndrome is a wide term which refers to a group of congenital anomalies caused by bands of amnion wrapping around the fetal parts (limb, digits, head, umbilical cord). Incidence of Amniotic Band Syndrome is  reported to be11200 to 115000live births. Etiology of Amniotic Band Syndrome is mostly idiopathic and it is not genetically determined. A case of 24 years old G3P2L2 admitted at 7 months of gestation with an antenatal ultrasonogram                    suggestive of Amniotic Band Syndrome resulting in multiple anomalies. She had no risk factors except for                          consanguineous marriage. As the malformations were          incompatible with life, pregnancy was terminated after getting informed and written consent. She expelled a dead born male fetus with anomalies that were antenatally detected by            ultrasonogram. This case is being reported here for its rarity.
