DURAL ECTASIA OF OPTIC NERVE SHEATH A RARE CASE REPORT

Abstract

Optic nerve DURAL ECTASIA is a rare cause of optic nerve sheath enlargement due to the accumulation of CSF around the optic nerve with no associated pathology. It is diagnosed by MRI(Magnetic Resonance Imaging) studies and can follow benign condition and sometimes with an                  unfavorable course. We describe the case of a 9 yr old boy who came to our ENT OPD with complaints of (1)swelling over root of nose and forehead - right side one month             duration (2) diminished vision right eye - one month duration, with decreased right eye ball size -one month . It was           diagnosed as a case of DURAL ECTASIA of optic nerve sheath by CT scan PNS and MRI scan - ORBIT We present this case report in Otorhinolaryngology to illustrate the rare presentation of swelling over root of nose and forehead with apparent enophthalmus in dural ectasia of optic nerve sheath and misleading both the patient and general practitioners as ENT disease especially frontal mucocele.
