RHINO SINO ORBITAL ASPERGILLOSIS - A CASE REPORT

Abstract


Fungal infection of the primary paranasal sinuses affects the brain and orbit of otherwise healthy elderly women. Primary nasal sinus infection assume a locally invasive course and spread to orbit and brain as described in the case below. This young immuno competent lady presented with right nasal obstruction, head ache, with blurring of vision on right side. A diagnosis of Aspergillus flavus was established on KOH wet mount and fungal culture. Patient responded favourably to endoscopic surgical debridement and optic nerve decompression on right side.
