SINONASAL UNDIFFERENTIATED CARCINOMA - A CASE REPORT

NANDHINI .

Abstract

INTRODUCTION - Sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma (SNUC), is one of the rare malignancies of neuroectodermal origin. The majority arise from the nasal cavity with the remaining cases originating from the maxillary and ethmoid sinuses. The age range is broad with a bimodal distribution affecting young adults and the elderly. A median age of presentation of 50 years (range 2077 years) has been reported. CASE REPORT -We are presenting here a case report of sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma in a 55 year old male presenting with unilateral nasal obstruction, nasal          discharge and epistaxis of the left side for 3 months.                  Diagnostic nasal endoscopy revealed a pale friable granular mass occupying the left nasal cavity obscuring the view of inferior turbinate. Biopsy report came as undifferentiated              carcinoma. Patient underwent endoscopic excision followed by post op radiotherapy and is on follow up.                               CONCLUSION - Sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma is a rare malignant tumor of the sinonasal tract. Combined  modality treatment is the best management option. Surgical excision followed by adjuvant chemotherapy or radiotherapy achieves best cure rate. Patient should be on regular follow up for life time.
