PETROUS APEX CHOLESTEATOMA- A SURGIGAL CHALLENGE

AISHWARYA J G

Abstract

Petrous apex cholesteatomas are more commonly congenital type of cholesteatomas. We here present a case of 24 year old male patient coming with chief complaints of left ear ache for past 3 months and mild occasional unsteadiness. On examination left tympanic membrane was intact. PTA revealed left mild CHL of 24db.                   HRCT- temporal bone and MRI revealed soft tissue density in the left mastoid cavity extending upto petrous apex and abetting cerebellum. We used Endoscopic Trans-mastoid approach for surgery as vestibular functions were normal and to avoid morbid              exposure of vital structures. Patient post operatively had no complications and he is been on regular follow up for past 2 years without any recurrences.
