IMMUNODIAGNOSIS OF COELIAC DISEASE A CASE REPORT

SWAATHY R RAMAMURTHYR

Abstract

Coeliac disease or gluten sensitive enteropathy
is an autoimmune disorder of
small bowel that occurs on exposure to
gluten, which commonly manifests in childhood
and rarely in adults. Coeliac disease,
is a rare entity in South India, documented
so far, which is because of the genetic
makeup and dietary habits of the population.
In the present case, a three years old
male child, of North Indian origin, presented
with chronic intermittent diarrhoea
with malnutrition, for the past six months,
and serology showed a positive anti-tissue
Transglutaminase antibody. The child was
diagnosed to have Coeliac disease and
started on Gluten free diet after which the
child showed tremendous improvement.
