Squamous cell carcinoma arising in mature cystic teratoma of ovary - A Case Report

REVATHY M

Abstract

Germ cell tumors constitute about 20 percent of all ovarian malignancies. Most of them are seen in children and young adults(1). 95 percent of germ cell tumors are benign  cystic teratoma. Malignant transformation in a mature cystic teratoma of the ovary is a rare event, developing in 1 to 2   percent of cases and is a sign of poor prognosis(1,2). The most common malignancy is Squamous cell carcinoma accounting for 75 percent(3). In this case report, we describe a case of squamous cell carcinoma arising from mature cystic teratoma in a 60yr old postmenopausal woman.
