ABSENCE OF MUSCULOCUTANEOUS NERVE-A CASE REPORT

VIDULATHA K

Abstract

Variations in the origin, course, branching pattern of the brachial plexus and its branches are common. The most frequently encountered variation is a communicating branch which arises from the musculocutaneous nerve to join with the median nerve. This case study reports of the absence of  muscuocutaneous nerve and the innervations of the muscles of the anterior compartment of the arm by the median nerve. Such anatomical variations are rare and are infrequently reported, so the incidence of such variations is not exactly known. Such  abnormalities are important during surgical procedures, hence they are important to surgeons, neurologists and anaesthetist during clinical practice.
