AN INTERESTING CASE OF RETRACTION TRANSAMINITIS - A CASE REPORT
Abstract
Retraction transaminitis, is a rare condition observed in the postoperative period of major open surgeries like laparotomy. This condition is due to mechanical pressure exerted by liver retractor during surgery. The mechanical pressure and ischemia causes liver cell injury and release of liver enzymes particularly transaminases leading to elevated liver function parameters in the early postoperative period without any symptoms. Mild elevation of bilirubin is usually found in many surgeries due to haemolysis or blood transfusion at or before surgery. This elevation of liver enzymes is transient and reverts back to its normal level in the following few days without any intervention and this benign condition is called RETRACTION TRANSAMINITIS.
