VARIATION OF MUSCULOCUTANEOUS NERVE - A CASE REPORT

THENMOZHI A AYYASAMY

Abstract

During routine dissection of a 70 year old male  cadaver, we observed a variation in the course of                           musculocutaneous nerve and a communication between              musculocutaneous nerve and median nerve in upper one third of arm. Musculocutaneous nerve arise from lateral cord of              brachial plexus and does not pierce the coracobrachialis muscle and lies medial to it. Musculocutaneous nerve gives two              muscular branches to coracobrachialis muscle and gives thick communicating branch to median nerve. These variations are important to surgeons while treating the traumatic injuries of axilla and arm.
