DIAGNOSTIC CHALLENGES IN SPINAL TUBERCULOSIS AND ROLE OF GENEXPERT
Abstract
Spinal tuberculosis is a common form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis which can lead to profound vertebral destruction and severe complications. Gene Xpert study a cartridge based fully automated test which can simultaneously detect TB and rifampicin resistance within few hours is very useful in the early diagnosis of tuberculosis. Confirmation of the diagnosis of tuberculosis could be made in a majority of patients using the Genexpert study along with HPE. GeneXpert, tissue diagnosis, culture should form part of diagnostic workup of spinal TB.
