A Case of Squamous Cell Carcinoma Mimicking Salivary Gland tumor – Diagnostic Dilemma.

Mahalakshmi Loganathan, Prasad Harikrish .

Abstract

Squamous cell carcinoma is one of the most common malignant neoplasms that affect the oral cavity. Etiology of OSCC is multifactorial but usually associated with smoking and alcohol consumption. This paper reports a case of 55-year-old male patient with a proliferative growth involving the posterior aspect of alveolar ridge, buccal mucosa, buccal and lingual vestibule and floor of mouth. Histopathological features of the current case mimicked features of a salivary gland tumor, resulting in a diagnostic dilemma. Proper identification of the histopathological grading of squamous cell carcinoma aids in appropriate treatment and good prognosis.
