Empyema Necessitans - An Uncommon Presentation of Tuberculosis
Abstract
In the post antibiotic era, the incidence of empyema necessitans has declined and it is a rare clinical entity nowadays. This case report depicts the presentation of an anterior chest wall mass of unknown etiology. It was later found to be an extra-thoracic extension of an intra-pleural purulent collection of tuberculous etiology. The extra-thoracic collection was drained and the patient responded well to anti-tubercular drugs. This case draws our attention to a very rare presentation of pulmonary tuberculosis, which presented acutely.
