Interesting Case of Systemic Lupus rythematosus Presenting as Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome

Vineeth Varghese Thaomas, Ajay Kumar Mis .

Abstract

PRES syndrome is a rare neurological presentation of lupus nephritis. Risk factors for development are high blood pressure, renal involvement and following use of immunomodulators like high dose steroids. Diagnosis is by exclusion of other more common causes in the clinical context and characteristic MRI findings. Management includes antiepileptics for control of seizure episodes along with primary etiological diagnosis and management. Short term and long-term outcomes are favorable with low incidence of long term sequelae.
