Acrometastasis to the 5th Metacarpal Bone as a Presenting Feature of an Occult Carcinoma of Lung

Vidhya M and Swaminatha .

Abstract

Metastatic tumors of the hand are extremely rare, accounting for about 0.1% of all bone metastases(1). Lung cancers form the most common cause of acrometastasis, followed by tumors of the kidney and breast(2). Here we report a case of 63-year-old male who presented with a swelling over dorsum of left hand, which was found to be metastatic squamous cell carcinomatous deposits on fine needle aspiration cytology. Later, the patient underwent extensive evaluation for primary and it was proved to be squamous cell carcinoma of the lung with metastasis to the left 5th metacarpal bone.
