Congenital uterine prolapse in a neurologically normal neonate : A rare case report
Abstract
Uterovaginal prolapse in a neonate is extremely rare. Presentation in the newborn period is usually associated with spinal dysraphism and poor innervations of pelvic floor muscles and ligamentous supports of the uterus .Early intervention is essential to prevent ascending infection. Different methods of treatment have been used in the past to reduce and maintain reduction of the prolapse. We report a rare case of a congenital UVP in a neonate noticed at birth. The neonate was successfully managed conservatively with digital reduction and strapping of the buttocks down to the legs with crepe bandage for 48 hrs. The neonate is presently 9 months old, she is normal with no recurrence of the prolapse.
