An Accessory Left Hepatic Artery Arising from Left Gastric Artery: A Case Report

Abstract


The left hepatic artery contributes sole arterial supply to left lobe of the liver. Misinterpretation of normal anatomy and anatomical variations of the left hepatic artery contribute to the major intraoperative mishaps and complications in hepatobiliary surgery. The frequency of inadvertent or            iatrogenic hepatobiliary vascular injury rises with the event of an aberrant anatomy. On routine dissection of the abdominal cavity, in an 87 year old male cadaver, an accessory left  hepatic artery was found to be originating from the left gastric artery. The other branches of the coeliac trunk were common hepatic artery which branched into left and right hepatic            arteries, splenic artery and left gastric artery.
