Anaesthesia for debulking of tracheal tumour
Abstract
Critical central airway obstruction is a life threatening emergency. The trachea or the main bronchi can be obstructed due to stenosis or soft tissue tumors. Tumour debulking and tracheal stenting can be a challenging procedure to the anaesthesiologists, as conventional methods of airway management might not be a possibility. In few situations,,introducing an endotracheal tube may cause a partial airway obstruction to become a complete obstruction . The real challenge in such cases are maintenance of a patent and immobile surgical field while ensuring adequate ventilation and gas exchange. We report a case of tracheal adenoid cystic tumour causing tracheal and right main bronchus obstruction leaving only the left main bronchus for ventilation
