Melioidosis of the Central Nervous System

Gideon Lyngsyun Rynjah, Atif Shaikh, Mat .

Abstract

Melioidosis has been increasingly recognised from India(1). Neurological involvement is rare, with higher rates of involvement seen in Australia as                 compared to elsewhere in the world(2). Previous cases of neurological involvement described from India have constituted reports of cerebral abscesses or                      osteomyelitis(3,4). However, neurological involvement is probably under recognised and we describe two cases with neurological melioidosis presenting with involvement of the brainstem, cerebellum and spinal cord.
