Prevalence and factors associated with portal vein thrombosis in patients with cirrhosis of liver
Abstract
Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is defined as an obstruction of the portal vein or its branches, that include the splenic, superior mesenteric, and inferior mesenteric veins (1).Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is observed in a variety of clinical scenarios such as myeloproliferative diseases, liver cirrhosis, cancer or infection(2-5).Varying aetiology substantially influences its clinical presentation, prognosis and management according to aetiology. Broadly it is classified as acute or chronic, extra or intrahepatic, occlusive or non-occlusive and progressive or self-resolving.
