Cholestatic infiltrative disorders of liver: case series

Kulkarni Aditya Vivekanand, Venkatkrishn .

Abstract

Infiltrative disorders of liver is a set of rare diseases. The etiology is incompletely understood but most of these disorders are part of a systemic disease. As the word implies, there is an infiltration of the liver by unwanted protein, fat or granulomas setting up an inflammatory response and thus causing liver injury. The clinical features vary from being asymptomatic to non specific symptoms to cholestasis and ultimately developing portal hypertension and liver cell failure. Hence identifying these disorders early in the course and initiating the treatment is essential. The diagnosis of these condition is by exclusion and high index of suspicion. No specific tests are available to suggest their diagnosis with accuracy and most of the patients require liver biopsy. We are presenting a case series of two patients with infiltrative liver disease and our experience in approach and management of the same.
