Serum Lactate Level In Acute Myocardial Infarction

Manonmani .

Abstract

Acute Myocardial Infarction is defined as imbalance between myocardial oxygen supply and demand resulting in injury to and eventual death of the myocytes.Serum Lactate is an indicator of oxygen deficit in the tissue.High levels of serum Lactate indicates anaerobic cellular injury .It may be used for assessment , diagnosis and management of patients of Acute Myocardial Infarction. The aim of the study is to determine the serum Lactate level in AMI patients and to find out the correlation between serum Lactate and serum CK-MB, serum LDH serum AST level in AMI. Materials and methods Hundred subjects were chosen for study , of which 50 healthy individuals were taken as control group, and 50 AMI patients as study group. Serum Lactate level was estimated by Colorimetric assay. Results- the mean serum Lactate level in the study group is higher than the mean serum Lactate level in the control group (39.340414.343 mgdl vs 15.7201.961 mgdl) (p0.0001). There is significant positive correlation between serum Lactate than serum CK-MB, and no significant correlation with serum LDH and serum AST in the study group (AMI).AMI).Discussion-The study concludes that serum Lactate is a biochemical marker which can be used along with other markers for diagnostic and therapeutic guidelines for the treatment of Acute Myocardial Infarction.
