RARE PRESENTATION OF DELAYED MEDIASTINAL METASTASIS IN TWO TREATED CASES OF CERVICAL CANCER

K HARIPRIYA

Abstract

Cervical cancer most commonly metastasizes to para-aortic nodes, lung, abdominal cavity
and supraclavicular nodes. Metastasis to mediastinal lymph nodes is very rare. Here are two patients
from our institute where the patients with long disease free interval had metastasis to the
mediastinum, both patients were early stage cancers of uterine cervix and treated using external
radiation and brachytherapy (one patient also received concurrent chemotherapy). They were on
follow up for 4 years and 11 years when they came with complaints hoarseness of voice, and on
evaluation, a mediastinal mass biopsy and IHC proven from cervical cancer metastasis and were
treated with chemotherapy followed by external beam radiation. Good local control achieved. The
patients have been on follow up for one year with no signs of disease progression.
